Treasured Fellowship

Visiting Church Plant in Chad fun
It has been such a joy for our family to spend the last month here in the US, reconnecting with family and friends and sweltering in the August heat.  Favorite events, according to our kids, have been time with cousins in the mountains, youth group at Encounter, biking with their Uncle, and lots of swimming.

Cousin Fun

For the grownups in the family, we’ve treasured the times of fellowship, both lighthearted fun and deep sharing with loved ones here.  We are so privileged to have such a wealth of friendships both here in the US and spread across the globe.

As we head back to Kenya, we’d like to share a few challenges we’re facing and ask that you continue to stand with us.  Our heart and calling has always been to see workers challenged and equipped to take their place in the Kingdom.  We are especially excited about seeing on fire young people in Africa being trained and sent out.

Since we’ve relocated to Kenya, this has meant a lot of teaching invitations for Moses, both in the international body of Christ and in many YWAM locations across Africa, and consequently, a lot more airfares.

Sharing with PA Youth

At the same time we’ve been feeling a desire to purchase a home in Nairobi, as a base for our family and to serve others in ministry and hospitality.  This is a vision that is pretty much beyond us, with increased living expenses in Kenya already stretching our budget.

Malaysia Ministry
As you know, we are volunteers in ministry and God has been incredibly faithful to meet both our family and ministry needs through a few committed churches, and many faithful individuals over the years.  We’re asking Him to provide a significant increase in our regular support, as our area of influence is expanding and our children are growing up.

If you would like to be part of our sending team, giving info is on the left side column, and you can always drop us a line @ mosesnjo(at)gmail.com if you have questions or want to chat more.

dEFINED bY rELATIONSHIPS

2014 so far has been a year defined by relationships;  Strengthening relationships with our colleagues in the region thru their visit in January,   Being blessed by our friends from the US who came to serve,  Our home church here in Sarh welcoming and taking care of our family and friends as they would their own,  Enjoying times as YWAM staff and students – in ministry and fellowship.  Bittersweet “see you soons” as visitors went back home, and Elin returned to the US after truly being part of our family and serving nonstop for the last year and a half.    We are so grateful for the international, multicultural, diversely gifted family of God, and have experienced again how different parts of the body are a blessing and benefit to the each other, when we bring our gifts together for His Glory.  Please continue to pray for us for protection over our relationships as we are in an area with strife and rebellion (CAR, Nigeria, S. Sudan,) that we as believers and as a team would be an example of God-pleasing relationships and unity.

News from the Kariuki Family

April 2014 - Serving with YWAM in Sarh, Chad

In January we hosted a team of four from our YWAM regional office.  Since Chad is a difficult location to travel to or from, and many of our staff have been unable to participate in regional events, we especially cherished this time together.  The team was able to spend time at our training center, visit staff in their homes, and visit churches we have planted.
February was jam-packed full of laughter, hard work and conversations/ catching up.   A team of 14 from churches in PA were with us for ten days here in Sarh.  The team had a busy but productive time

 – They installed ceilings on all of our dorm rooms, showed the Jesus Film in our local community, and hosted a youth meeting, in addition to spending lots of time hanging out with our staff and students, getting to know each other despite language and cultural barriers.  We greatly appreciate the way that they joyfully served us and got a taste of missions.  It was a special treat to have Jo’s Mom, Aunt Carol and cousin Lisa here during this time as well.

Building update:  It is so exciting to see God provide for each step of the way in the construction of the campus.  Presently our dining hall / kitchen is roofed and work is being done in preparation for cementing the floors and plastering the interior walls.  The dorm rooms look great with their new ceilings, and a small room to house the generator for the base is almost completed!  Looking forward to holding classes and seminars in our new building!!

Travel plans: We will be spending most of June, July and August in the US.  We look forward to seeing friends and family there during this time, and having a bit of a break from our responsibilities and routine here.  We are currently still looking for a place to stay in PA, during this time, specifically from June 1-17, and July 10-Sept. 2.  Email us if you have ideas.  Please also pray with us for provision of our tickets.  Thank you.

Thank you, ELIN!

Elin has served us in innumerable ways since coming to Chad as a volunteer Mission Nanny in 2012.  She’s become part of our family, and has made home school, and life in general a lot more fun, as well as making things run more smoothly in our household.  Pray with us that God prospers Elin on the next step in her journey and blesses her greatly...
Elin blogged her experiences on "Living A Dream"

Getting Ready to go Back to Africa

Kariuki News
Missionaries serving in Chad,Africa
March 2012

“When will we go back to Africa?” Four year old Katelyn asks, almost on a weekly basis, since we began our furlough in the US a year ago.  The other kids reminiscence about the trees Moses planted that they like to climb.  Marianna misses Simba, our dog, who was staying with a friend.  Three times Simba broke free from his leash at our friends’ house and found his way “home” - swimming across a river and walking 5 miles to our house, only to be taken back to his new home!  Our landlord now takes care of him at our house until we return.  ;-)  We are all excited about finding our way back home to Africa this summer!  We are trusting God for tickets to travel back at the end of July.  As we look forward to getting back to Africa, we are thankful for the time we have had here in the US.  It has been a wonderful season of enjoying friendships and family here again, refreshing, and making new friends.  Doors continue to open for us to share about Chad and to be an encouragement to those we meet.

As we continue to plan and prepare to begin building the Village des Nations, we are so thankful for the vision God has given us, and for those who are partnering with us.  As we begin this next phase of building on the land the Lord is given us, please consider what you can do!  If you would like to come and help out, give, or pray specifically for this project, please be in touch.  We’re excited about what God is doing!
