Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! J
I wish you a fruitful year in which you will increase in Joy and Gladness even as God makes Himself known more and more to you.
This year my desire is that my passion for Jesus would increase. The word God emphasized to me at the close of the year is that we are supposed to make God known to each other... I am not satisfied with my present disposition. My cry is that I may grow in grace and present God as He really is both in my walk and talk.
This letter is being written from Hamburg but might be sent from either Lausanne or Nairobi. Friends in Germany invited me to spend Christmas at Heppenheim (with the Wetzels) and New Year at Hamburg (with the Ruthards). This are former students with me in the School of Biblical Studies at Muizenberg South Africa. They are 2 wonderful couples. Danny and Carol the SBS leaders at Kingslodge England were there too and we had a pleasant time.
At Hepenheim I especially enjoyed the old city with cobblestone roads and walks. The old castles and cathedrals were fabulous.
Hamburg city full of lights and fireworks on New Years eve was quite a sight. I immensely enjoyed the appointments that God had for me both with individuals and with groups. Sharing Christ is always a delight.
Merci Seignior Yesus
Looking back over the last few months to the time when I was struggling to get a visa and the time when I didn’t have my finances together for Switzerland... fills me with thanksgiving as I consider the various ways in which God intervened and met my needs. The visa though delayed came through, and the finances came in just on time. “Thankyou Lord for being faithful always!” 1Th.5:24
Lots of people were used of God to make this happen; My ‘Autumn’ School leader Ana Roncal pursued the visa issue tirelessly from Lausanne until everything fell in place. Your prayers and financial support was invaluable.
Why SBS CC?
My desire is to multiply people who can be used of God to equip the church beginning in Africa. The Inductive Bible Study approach trains one to allow the scripture to speak for themselves. This is an invaluable approach since lots of Bible Studies are done deductively where one approaches the scriptures with a preconceived thesis (theory/ idea) making scriptures say what one wants. Though this can be used positively, many a time it is abused and people are misled.
Youth with a missions motto of ‘knowing God and making Him known’ kind of challenged my approach to serving God seven years ago. To be a good disciple requires good knowledge of the character and nature of God. This challenged me to study Gods word. In the year 1996 I took a year off and spent it in ‘Inductive Bible Study’ at YWAMs School of Biblical Studies. It ended up being a highlight of my life. If possible, my desire is that every believer should get an opportunity to study the Bible inductively. Especially Ministers of the Gospel... in Africa where the church is growing faster than Ministers are being equipped for the task. Obviously not all can afford to take a year off due to various responsibilities. The Core Course comes in handy in that in 3 months we are able to give somebody the tools for a lifetime of Bible Study.
My time in Switzerland is more to prepare me for this task. God in His grace and mercy has began this preparation, first giving me the training and now giving me the experience. You dear friend have been part of this through your prayers and support. Thankyou for investing in me. May God help me to multiply that investment in His vineyard.
Praise Report
: after 1½ years of prayer for a laptop. God has finally blessed me with a megabyte 486 laptop computer... During my time in Hamburg my brother there was used to bless me with a Hewlett Parkard 400 DeskJet Printer. My SBS work becomes more fun as I am able to present my lectures in a better format. Thankyou for praying with me about this!

Desiderata
Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons , they are a vexation to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter, for always, there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interest in your career however humble, its a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for higher ideals and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself . Especially do not feign affection . Neither be cynical about love ; For in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in times of sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born out of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be there. And whether or not its clear to you no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God whatever you conceive Him to be and whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful, Strive to be happy.
