Honeymoon Bliss!

From the Kariuki’s…. APRIL 2000

The last several months have gone by in a whirlwind of travelling, wedding arrangements, (plus a Kenyan reception) moving, settling into our new home, adjusting to married life, trying to catch up with friends and family on both sides of the world…. It is hard to know where to begin!

First of all we’d like to thank all of you who have so faithfully encouraged, supported, given to us, prayed for us…you mean so much to us and we have been truly blessed to have such a wonderful network of caring family and friends. Our prayer is that God will bless you over and abundantly more than you imagine. We have seen His faithfulness over and over again –what can we say, but what an AWESOME God!

After our wedding in November we went on honeymoon to Tennessee and Florida, had a wonderful time and came back to Pennsylvania feeling like God had just spoiled us so much. We spent a busy two weeks back with Jo’s family trying to get everything packed, errands done, and see everyone for the last time before flying back to Kenya.

It is wonderful to be back in Kenya, to be with family and friends here, and to be settled in our own home. Our first few weeks here, and the Christmas holidays we spent with family, and just before New Year’s moved into our own apartment. We looked around quite a lot, and are thanking God for leading us to something in our price range, in a good area, and close to the YWAM offices. I (Jo) certainly have been enjoying being able to unpack everything for a change after being on the move for the last year and a half, and having belongings scattered in several countries!! Ministry opportunities seem to come knocking on our door as youth from Moses’s church visit and come for counseling. We’ve had some rich times of building relationships, and pray for wisdom as we serve them.

We hadn’t stayed in our new home for long before we left for Mozambique to sort through things there, introduce Moses to friends, and say goodbye. We flew into Zimbabwe, went by road to Mozambique, and stayed there for a week. It was a fun time of seeing kids from the project again, enjoying the beach, spending time with friends, and showing Moses around Beira. We got to spend some special time with Pastor Bonga, a Mozambican who has adopted Jo as his daughter, and share in his church. Moses was instructed in front of the whole church to “take good care of our daughter.” J

Up next… We are currently preparing for the next School of Biblical Studies Core Course (SBSCC) to be held here at YWAM Nairobi. We are excited about this opportunity to disciple people in how to study and apply the Word to their lives. The SBSCC is a three-month course that will begin in mid-May. Please pray with us that God’s Word will transform the students. Also pray for the other school staff and us as we work together as a team to impact the students. Our role will be a supportive one, James, a friend who we have been working with, will be the school leader. We only have a few weeks to make final arrangements for the school, and need to see God’s hand on our communication and planning. It is a very intense course, reading through the entire Bible once in three months, and studying 17 books inductively, which involves reading through them at least five times. So please pray for the students as well!

We have reasons to thank God:

v He brought us together!

v He has provided opportunities for us to work together.

v Provided for our 2 weddings J

v Wonderful Honeymoon locations

v New Laptop

v Great apartment & furnishings

v The list is endless!

MEDITATION:

Is your heart burning to make a difference the Jesus way? Jesus received power when the Holy Spirit came upon Him … He went forth in power, preaching good news to the poor, setting the captives free and giving sight to the blind. Eventually it cost His life. Paul wrote to Timothy that anyone who seeks to live a godly life will be persecuted 2Tim. 3:12, not because of preaching the cross like everybody does but because of preaching only the cross. Setting the captives free and bringing social reform is going to cost some in the church everything … even their lives. The power of the Spirit Joel said would, besides deliver from oppressive rule and bring an abundance of food; inspire healthy and positive creativity manifesting itself in a quality of life and godly culture that brings praise to God (Joel 2:18-22). (I quote Vishal Mangalwadi) “In a stagnant and enslaved society, old men don’t dream dreams; they mourn bygone glories. Young men are not inspired by visions of hope for the future; they resign themselves to live with the present static reality of despair and gloom. The creative springs of life dry up, and there is no song of praise in the hearts of slaves. People perish because there is no prophetic vision. No one speaks for truth with the freedom and authority of God. Not only the masses but also the mighty bow before evil and prefer to be discreetly quiet.”
